When in Khanom why not take a little time out to visit Coral Stupa Temple in Thong Nian. Situated in Ampher Thong Nian, this ancient Stupa was built around 1000 years ago by Sitamasor Garath who also built the famous Prathth JD temple in Nakhon Si Tamarrat. Initially there were many valuable artefacts were placed inside and then later at its preservation some were removed for safekeeping. The whole Stupa was made of pure coral rocks which makes this Stupa the only one of this kind in the world.
In early 2006 the as the structure was almost in danger of collapse the government intervened and renovated the Stupa to its former glory at a cost of 50,000 bhat. In 2010 Electric Plant in Khanom injected 3 million Bhat to make the road to the Stupa and develop the surroundings you see today.
